Thank you for your interest in the Jersey Shore Rescue Mission! Whether you’ve been following our case or are just learning about the Mission, let me give you a quick update on where we’ve been and where we are today:
February 2007 - We opened the Jersey Shore Rescue Mission to serve the homeless in Asbury Park. On our first night, we fed 11 men and sheltered three. By the end of May, we were feeding about 35 men and sheltering 15 every night.
October 2007 - Despite support from local churches, agencies, and residents, the zoning board forced us to shut our doors to overnight guests. However, we were allowed to run our thrift store and provide meals in partnership with area churches.
July 2008 - After months of waiting, our case was presented in court. We were hoping permission would be granted to reopen our doors to Asbury Park’s homeless.
August 2008 - Judge Lawrence Lawson of the Superior Court of New Jersey refused to overturn the October 2007 decision to shut down the Mission.
Today - We’re not done fighting for the homeless! We plan to take our case to the NJ Appellate Division, and we need your help:
Donate now to help with the cost of the appeal, which may run up to $25,000.
